Governmental Affairs Committee
The governmental affairs committee is designed to keep local FB members informed about developments in local, state and federal government. The committee also strives to build a positive working relationship with elected officials and to provide them with an overview of our organization’s policies. Keeping an open line of communication with elected officials includes regular contact at monthly meetings, weekly updates to state leaders, and a working relationship which benefits all.
Activities include Springfield lobbying efforts, FB ACT Training, compiling and publishing the contact information of locally elected public officials such as members of the County Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, State General Assembly and Federal Legislature, adopted Legislator visits, harvest visits and combine rides for state legislators, civic engagement discussion, and a Congressional Farm Bill listening session.
The Governmental Affairs Committee meets the Tuesday before the third Thursday of the month. All Farm Bureau members are welcome to attend. Meetings begin at 7:30 a.m in the CCFB Auditorium.
Marketing Club
The Champaign County Farm Bureau Marketing Club hosts periodic meetings with speakers covering different agricultural topics which include crop insurance, weather outlook, agronomy updates and insurance policy review. Participating in CCFB’s Marketing Club provides members with amazing opportunities to talk to diverse groups of market strategists.
Prime Timers
The Prime Timer’s program has a goal of providing entertaining and informational social programs, educational activities, and travel opportunities for our members. With monthly updates on legislative issues on the local, state and national level, members are informed citizens as well as knowledgeable consumers of agricultural products. Community outreach is also a priority as is a continual desire to learn more about the changing world around us.
Every month, this committee continually investigates new ideas and events that may be of interest to their group. Resources used include local colleges, local celebrities, legislators, teachers, lawmakers, entertainers, the Farm Bureau, and local businesses. Committee leaders organize, plan and execute 100% of all programming, travel and catering services. Duties from coffee making to total setup are delegated to help the group run like a well-oiled machine.
The Prime Timers consists of 80 members led by an executive committee of 8 volunteers. While individual projects are organized by the executive committee, the entire membership assists with the monthly meetings including setting up tables and chairs, preparing the site, baking desserts, providing treats and brochures at place settings, monitoring microphones and AV equipment and providing a complete and comprehensive program.
Recent programs include German Agriculture, Toys of Yesteryear, Thwarting Juvenile Crime in the County, Holidays in Branson, Food for the Needy, Church Basement Ladies, County Government, Irish Agriculture in the Classroom, University History, Caves of Illinois and Missouri.
Prime Timers meet 11 times per year on the second Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. in the CCFB Auditorium.
Viewpoint Committee
The Viewpoint Committee strives to keep members involved in the grassroots policy development process. Opportunities are provided for members to share their views and assist in developing state organizational policies. Volunteers develop program ideas, surface policy initiatives and organize meetings while helping to promote grassroots opportunities. Membership utilizes farm bureau resources and local ag supporters to enhance the policy development process so that our organization might accurately represent local opinion.
Projects and programs throughout the year include Member Surveys, Focus Groups, Policy Development Process Discussion, Policy Resolution Updates, Farm Talks on Local Issues and State and Federal Policy Updates.
The Viewpoint Committee meets on an as needed basis several times throughout the year.
Women’s Committee
Women’s Committee members have a mission of promoting, educating and informing families about the importance of agriculture in the food, fiber, and fuel that enables them to live productive lives. Projects, programs, and seminars are designed to equip the Women’s Committee with the confidence and knowledge they need to “share the story of agriculture” while establishing a true “connection” with families and building a strong connection with one another.
Members are asked to assist with projects within the committee’s program of work that best align with their field of interest. Resources utilized include speakers, schools, a local orchard, commodity groups, a local college, YAL’s, libraries and local agribusinesses. Recent projects include Harvest First Aid Kits, Playin’ It Safe, Spring Fling, and Ag Day at Curtis Orchard.
The Women’s Committee meets the second Monday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in the CCFB Auditorium.
Young Ag Leaders
The Champaign County Farm Bureau Young Ag Leaders are dedicated to improving the economic well-being of agriculture and enriching the quality of farm family life for the next generation of agriculturalists. Any Farm Bureau members between the ages of 18-35 are welcome to join this committee.
The CCFB Young Ag Leaders complete projects that empower new farmers with management tools to grow their operation, connect with consumers and leave a positive impression of our industry, and promote awareness in the areas of leadership, marketing, and technology as we grow safe food.
YAL members develop a plan of work that is approved by the board of directors. Projects reflect personal passions and needs within the community and county. Throughout the year, plans are evaluated and adjusted by the entire committee for effectiveness.
